Stanley Wany est un artiste multidisciplinaire dont le travail consiste à revisiter les archives coloniales et historiques dans le but d'extirper l'histoire de ses ancêtres afrodescendants. Il commence son exploration comme éditeur et créateur de romans graphiques expérimentaux qui explore la non-linéarité de la  narration et de l'inconscient. Après une résidence en Finlande, il fait le saut en arts visuels, poursuivant sa recherche en incorporant cette fois l’historicité des narratifs présents dans la culture populaire. Par le dessin, la peinture, l’installation et les romans graphiques expérimentaux, il approfondit ses réflexions sur la culture populaire, les mythes et le subconscient en relation avec l’expérience des personnes afro-descendantes dans la société occidentale. En expérimentant avec des médiums connotés comme le café, la mélasse, l’indigo et le coton, il incarne le concept de « créolisation » développé par Édouard Glissant. En 2025, en partenariat avec le Groupe de recherche et de réflexion CIÉCO, il participe à une résidence de recherche sur la muséologie décoloniale au Musée Redpath. Il a récemment complété une maîtrise à l'UQAM ainsi qu'une résidence de recherche-création à l'International Studio and Curatorial Program à Brooklyn.

Stanley Wany a présenté des expositions solos à la Galerie ELLEPHANT, à la Galerie de l’UQAM, au Plug In Contemporary Art Institute, BAND Gallery, à la Galerie d’art d’Ottawa et à la Perc Tucker Regional Gallery (Australie). Il a également participé à des expositions de groupe à la Parsons School of Design (New York), avec la Ville de Montréal, à la galerie Art Mûr, à Âjagemô (Conseil des arts du Canada), à la Ville d’Ottawa, au Sénat du Parlement canadien, chez Wallspace Gallery + Framing et au festival North by Northwest. Il a aussi pris part à de nombreux événements, dont la foire Plural, Art Toronto, le congrès du Haitian Studies Association, une résidence à Arteles (Finlande), le Festival de la bande dessinée d’Angoulême et le Helsinki Comics Festival. Cinq publications sont incluses à son actif, dont Helem (2021, Conundrum Press), Inwards (2020, Perc Tucker Regional Gallery), Séquences, Dreamcave et Agalma (2015, 2016 et 2017, Éditions Trip), en plus de nombreuses contributions à des ouvrages collectifs. Il est récipiendaire de diverses bourses du Conseil des arts du Canada, du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec et du groupe de recherche et de réflexion CIÉCO (2024-2025).  Ses œuvres se retrouvent dans les collections suivantes : Majudia Collection ; Banque d’art du Canada ; Banque TD ; Galerie d’art d’Ottawa ; Collections privées, Canada et Australie ; Perc Tucker Regional Gallery (Townsville, Australie) ; Ville d’Ottawa ; William Marsh Rice University (Houston, Texas).

Stanley Wany is a multidisciplinary artist whose work consists of revisiting colonial and historical archives with the aim of extracting the history of his Afro-descendant ancestors. He begins his exploration as an editor and creator of experimental graphic novels that explore the nonlinearity of narration and the unconscious. After a residency in Finland, he made the leap into visual art, continuing his research, this time incorporating the historicity of narratives present in popular culture. Through drawing, painting, installation and experimental graphic novels, he deepens his reflections on popular culture, myths and the subconscious in relation to the experience of people of Afro-descendants in Western society. By experimenting with connoted mediums such as coffee, molasses, indigo and cotton, he embodies the concept of “creolization” developed by Édouard Glissant. In 2025, in partnership with the CIÉCO research and reflection group, he will participate in a research residency on decolonial museology at the Redpath Museum. He recently completed a master's degree at UQAM as well as a research-creation residency at the International Studio and Curatorial Program in Brooklyn. 

Stanley Wany has presented solo exhibitions at the ELLEPHANT Gallery, the Galerie de l'UQAM, the Plug In Contemporary Art Institute, BAND Gallery, the Ottawa Art Gallery and the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery (Australia). He has also participated in group exhibitions at the Parsons School of Design (New York), with the City of Montreal, at Art Mûr gallery, at Âjagemô (Canada Council for the Arts), at the City of Ottawa, at the Senate of the Canadian Parliament and at Wallspace Gallery + Framing and at the North by Northwest festival.
